Where is the return from the root zone? Am I mistaken that not all of the fog will be absorbed? Some would condense and collect at the bottom of the growing container. Is there a way to return this to the reservoir or did I overlook it?
You’re correct.There will be some buildup. You just need to run a 1/4 line back into the unit. Use 1/4 npt fittings to connect them to your root zone, and the fogger. It will vary based on your setup.

This is a really old video, and that fan isn’t reliable at all in a high moisture environment. We have fully encased waterproof fans available on our website here…

have you ever seen or done a refillable reservoir using 5 gallon water jugs you get at Home Depot/Walmart? Looking around there’s no good ready-made options. Have you ever considered making kits similar to this video to sell?

They are really pretty quiet already. The Mist Maker is no louder than lightly boiling water. I think the fan is probably louder then the Mist Maker, and it is pretty quiet itself.
Hi. I know ultrasonic difussers distort the O2 level in the atmosphere. I had one in myLiving room and it messed up the burn mixture for my gas fire place turning the flame intense yellow orange and no blue. What does the O2 concentration read in the fog box?
This is an uneducated guess, but I don’t think they change the oxygen levels as much as the water droplets just taking up space. I wouldn’t think the ultrasonics deplete oxygen. I haven’t had anyone say they encountered problems based on O2 levels. Typically its people overheating their nutes, and causing depleted nutrient levels in the fog.
If I use fish waste as my fertilizer will it ruin my fogger? What is the life span of one of these units?
Hey i saw the video and im asking myself if it could mist up a 78x39x29 root reservoir? Or would i need a bigger mist maker and which size should it be?
Here is some info I give all my fogponic growers to help get you started.
It’s always hard to give an exact model to use, but bigger is almost always better. I always recommend buying the largest unit you are comfortable affording. The bigger units put out the fog very fast, and reduce the required run time, thus reducing your water temps.
For 100% fogponic grows, the biggest mistake is buying too small of a unit and not getting enough fog. It has to be very thick. A 6-12 disc unit is advised for 100% fogponic grows with multiple sites. You can use a smaller unit if you have a water chiller (so you can extend your run times) or if you do a hybrid grow such as fog with a shallow DWC or NFT in your case. In other words, the bottom 25% of the root is in nutrients, and the top 75% is in fog. You can use a smaller unit with this method.
To get the fog thick, you need to run the fan as slow as possible. The more air you add into the root zone, the more diluted your fog is. I always use the 80mm fan for fogponics. The 120mm is overkill.
To get a starting point for cycle times, turn on your Mist Maker and run it until the fog is as dense as possible in the root zone. This is your on-time. Shut off your Mist Maker and see how long it takes for most of the fog to dissipate. This is your off time. This will give you a good starting point for your cycle times. It is hard to give you exact times as every setup is so different.

isn’t there a return for the water/ mist back to the container? should there be a cyclic timer connected to the mister?
You can add one if you’d like, or just do a drain to waste type system. You can also add a timer. It depends on what your use is for the project.

Aside from being a really neat way to grow, there are some definite benefits. The smaller particles promote a “hairy” root mass resulting in much larger root balls. It also uses much less water than traditional hydro systems. There’s a lot more info on our site. Thehouseofhydro.com
I’m building a system myself and was curious, does the fog not leak out of the exposed fan hole when the air builds up? And if so, could one build an air tight system that circulates the fog from res to root chamber and back?
I’ve had customers ask about a closed loop system in the past, but I’m not sure if anybody has done it. You always a little bit of fog either way. The one drawback I see to a closed loop system is no fresh oxygen being brought into the root zone which could cause problems.
How quickly does the water level deplete? Does water collect in the root zone and need to be drained? How often?
