So sorry for your loss ❤❤

  • @BogBeaver says:

There’s a saying we use in the USA (usually about ranching) that I feel fits here:

“If you’ve got livestock, you’ve got dead stock.”

It’s an unfortunate reality but it’s still reality that sh*t just happens. Keep your head up!

Man so sorry to see that I know that was hard ! Hope your days get better buddy 🙏🏻

Rough day, Mitch! As a fellow beekeeper, I feel for you. The weather hasn’t been doing us any favours up and down the east coast either! Highly recommend an InstantVap Lite or similar for OAV treatments. Would love to see a Hoocho-style DIY oxalic acid strip episode too! Hope the colonies bounce back, mate!

The saddest part… we didnt get a welcome to hoochos. And that set the tone. So sorry for your loss. We need more bees and this hurts my nature loving soul.

Sorry to hear mate! I lost my last hive back in August used to have 4 but they died off one by one sadly the last probably Varroa as well as heard its in the area mid last year! I was going to look at using drone comb as a method to keep it down as they will prefer that as the drones take longer. For oxalic acid don’t you need to take the honey frames off? Also there’s a system that treats the mite with heat as the bees will be ok but the mites can’t cope but then again they have been here now for some time and probably adapted to warmer weather. There was also Narroa in the USA not sure if it has been approved yet the Yanks were saying it was looking very promising but again its just part of the overall treatment plan these days to keep the numbers down.

So sorry for your losses mate, what a horrible thing to find 💔 I’m up in Central Qld and this is my worst fear, I only just got my first hive a month ago.

Fingers crossed your girls recover and get strong again.

  • @aonomus says:

This is another datapoint of why humanity needs to mature, and invest some serious research effort into ways to end Varroa mite without harming bees. If humanity loses pollinators, the world goes hungry. When the world goes hungry, things get ugly because every parent will do whatever it takes to feed their family and kids. While industrial agriculture is required to feed the masses, permaculture, local growing techniques such as vertical farming, hydroponics, community gardens, or even just raised bed gardens in homeowners backyards provide substantially more food security for communities.

Also if you’re a land owner and your land is doing nothing, consider planting wildflowers and restoring biodiversity to your region! Without biodiversity, the long term viability of the human species is questionable at best.

Always learning from you Hoocho. I’m sure this was a hard video to put out, but I appreciate the honest reality that things may not always go perfectly. The community you built is still here for your amazing content <3

  • @neilappleby3988 says:

I’m on the Gold Coast, and the beetles have been terrible this year! I’ve had Varroa for about six months. Counts can stay high for a while, but keep monitoring and treating especially at the start and yoll be fine. Mine have all settled down now. I suspect feral colonies dying off and getting robbed out were contributing to high mite counts.
