Dozer’s All Grown Up… and the Ladies Are Moving In! 🐮🐔❤️

Dozer's all grown up, and now the ladies want their house back! 🐮🐔❤️
Remember our little rescue calf Dozer? Well, he's not so little anymore! He's graduated from bottle-feeding to grazing in the big pasture, which means it's finally time to turn his old home back into the Chick-Inn!
And my four egg-laying ladies are ready to move in! 🥚💕
Today I'm taking you along as I take down Dozer's old pen, put away the electric fencing and gates, and get the chicken house ready for its new residents.
We're adding fresh pine shavings, cleaning up their watering system, getting the feeder ready, and setting up a new six-hole nesting box that lets the eggs gently roll away after they're laid!
Hopefully that means fewer dirty eggs and happier hens! 🐔
I'll also tell you a little more about how Dozer earned his name. Let's just say teaching a bottle-raised calf about boundaries was quite the adventure! 😂
I love being able to reuse things around the farm, and this little building has certainly earned its keep. First broiler chickens, then Dozer, and now my laying hens!

It seems like just yesterday I was bottle-feeding that ornery little guy, and now he’s happily grazing out in the pasture!
And my four ladies finally have their Chick-Inn back! 🐔💕 Although I have a feeling they’ll be rearranging those fresh shavings exactly the way THEY want them! 😂

Katy, do you have problems with raccoons? They will climb over 10 feet high to find a way to get in with your chickens. They will pull apart overlapping layers of chicken wire on the ceiling of our hen house to get in with the chickens. Until we figured out how clever the raccoons were, we even suspected G. Gordon Liddy and the Cuban burglars were maybe up to their old tricks again…
