Planting Bell Peppers in Winter π± | Bato Bucket Hydroponic Greenhouse Setup
This Video is from the Youtube channel: “Homegrown Passion”.Β
Planting bell peppers in winter using a Bato Bucket hydroponic system inside our greenhouse. In this video, I walk you through the full process β drain-to-waste plumbing, perlite setup, planting, nutrient lines, pest prevention, and pruning for strong, productive pepper plants.
It might be freezing outside, but inside the greenhouse it already feels like spring. Today weβre planting an entire row of colored bell peppers that will feed people in just a few months. This is a real, working hydroponic system β not a demo β and I show you exactly how we set it up for long-season crops that demand consistency.
Youβll learn:
Why Bato Buckets work so well for peppers and tomatoes
How a drain-to-waste system prevents salt buildup
Proper bucket spacing and plumbing layout
How to fill and handle perlite correctly (and safely)
Why frequent, small feedings matter more than overwatering
How we plant two pepper plants per bucket for airflow and yield
Early pest detection tips for greenhouse growing
Why pruning and trellising set peppers up for higher-quality fruit
This is how we grow clean, intentional food year-round β even in the middle of winter.

We may have missed it, when did you seed the peppers? Thanks!
Thankyou for the video Katy, I’m looking forward to sowing my superhots in a month or so, and the rest of my peppers towards the end of Feb. 25 varieties this year. Still growing in compost mix or Kratky buckets, as I have no power outlet in my grow space – investigating a solar powered setup. All the best for the new Year π
Thanks for sharing your plans! 25 varieties sounds amazing! Best of luck with your superhots and your solar setupβit’s a great way to go green!
Kaity what size pump are you using for your system?
Everything on the BATO system uses water pressure to do the dosing from the Dosatron. So no pump. It works great I can explain more if you want but here is a good video to watch if you want more. https://youtu.be/pH7ldHrPCr8
Happy New Year, Katy it sure looks nice in there ,my pepper grow about the same, know growing any plants yet will start end of january do to no heat. Strawberry end of march. thanks for sharing.
Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing your growing timeline. It sounds like your peppers and strawberries are going to thrive when the time is right!
The start of a growthβ¦..love it!
It’s an exciting journey for sure! Can’t wait to share more updates as the peppers grow!
I just bought my pepper seeds for my living room pepper grow!
Awesome! Hope your living room pepper grow goes great! π±
Great job.
Can you use airpots instead of buckrts? it gives the roots more air.
Thanks for the feedback! Airpots are definitely an interesting option. They do promote better root aeration, so itβs worth considering for future setups!
I enjoy the video thank you β€β€β€
