Not very aesthetic for a bird house TBH

    • @GrowingAnswers says:

That’s because it’s meant to be practical. I’m not the type of person to decorate my yard with whimsy style things. This is not meant to be appealing people, its meant to house nesting birds. This is an alternative design to my other design in which that one IS appealing to both people and birds.

The types of birds this is meant for, like deep cavities. Regular “house style” boxes aren’t appealing to deep cavity nesting birds. “House style” boxes attract invasive sparrows since they are tunneling birds similar to how rats and mice nest. Sparrows don’t like this type of nesting box. So while they can’t get in the chickadee version of this, they could get in the bluebird version with the larger hole. So the only thing that deters them is the design.

Out of curiosity, what would be appealing to you? I try to make things that people like. Give me some ideas/alterations that you would like to see.

If anyone has any suggestions about the design, reply to this comment. Aside from altering the main mechanism, what would you like to see different? That would include mainly aesthetic changes. But I could also take suggestions for structural mods. Remember…This is for 3D FDM printing. Some design ideas will not align with being a practical option for this. Inner dimensional changes will stay the same either way. Larger or smaller is not practical. Its already in the sweet spot to favor the birds and overall printing efficiencies.
I want to design things that other people might want and I need feedback. I mainly made this for me and my own purposes so I only have my own perspective.

Glad to see there are steps for exit, otherwise smooth inside not good for claws.
