NO DRILL Solids Lifting Overflow for Aquarium Aquaponics
This Video is from the Youtube channel: “Rob Bob’s Aquaponics & Backyard Farm”.Β
Hi folks. Here's a look at a demonstration siphon box for a glass aquarium I knocked up today for a consultation with a couple in the US.
They are looking to use a large 120gal / 450L glass aquarium in their aquaponics system but didn't want to drill holes in the side wall if they didn't have to.
This is one option with placing the pump in the aquarium being another.
It would be great to hear other ways you've used glass tanks in your aquaponics builds in the comments below. You may help someone else out that needs a hand.
Cheers all.

Cool!
Cheers mate. π
Technically, isn’t a SLO & radial separator essentially the same thing only on a bigger scale?π
The SLO moves solids from the fish tank while the separator stores them outside the tank. π
Good to see you Rob, nice little set up.
Very interesting set up & explained well. Keep em coming.π
In my opinion, the issue with this arrangement is that the collection tank (the smaller tank) would not be an effective filter as the incoming inlet is half way the level of the tank and with the outlet at the “top”, this allows floating and some sinking particles to flow out and into the pump tank, and back into the 1st tank.
I am using this method to increase the storing capacity that are made up of smaller containers and located at different places, do not need to be all at one location.
As long as you can drill a hole in the fish tank, an overflow pipe above the water level across to the side tank would fix the risks if the siphon breaks.
