You should be able to use the design but make it symmetrical. Regardless of position on the cabinet. Making it like a sliding door lock was cool. For a symmetrical design you can just put a 3d printed tab. Seen some shower curtain rings like it. The cylinder could always use a philips screwdriver style addition to its stress points.
