This Trellis Setup Will Double Our Melon Harvest!
This Video is from the Youtube channel: “Homegrown Passion”.
Today I’m transplanting our personal-size hydroponic melons into grow bags and moving them under our cattle-panel trellis system between the greenhouse and the strawberry high tunnel.
These little melon plants started in Vego seed-starting trays, and now they’re moving into their summer setup where they’ll be fed from our Dosatron nutrient system with drip emitters going right to each plant. I’ll show you how I fill the grow bags, transplant the melons, top them with vermiculite, place them under the trellis, check the drip emitters, and get everything ready for the vines to start climbing.
Hydroponics isn’t just lettuce and herbs — you can grow beautiful melons this way too. These are personal-size melons that climb really well, and later in the season we’ll support the fruit with melon sling bags as they hang from the cattle-panel trellis.

Would you try growing melons like this? 🍈 This is one of my favorite summer greenhouse projects because once the vines climb over the cattle-panel trellis, the whole area turns into a little melon tunnel. I’ll keep sharing the progress as they grow, flower, and start hanging fruit — and if you want the deeper nutrient setup and behind-the-scenes greenhouse life, my Patreon is live now. Link is in the description! 🌱
I need to find a place to grow some squash and melons vertically.
It makes such a big difference in saving space, good luck with your garden! ❤️ keep me informed on your progress.
What will your watering schedule be?
Right now watering 4 times a day each time 2 minutes. I will increase as plants get bigger and days get hotter.
I need to know what kind of black growing medium you’re using. Can I use coconut fiber instead?
I use nylons and a tomatoe clip
