I had someone save me those red coffee containers. My first hydroponic attempt looked good! I sprouted some baby choi seeds in a zip bag. They even stayed green for a few weeks. But they didn’t grow and eventually died off. It was maybe too cold back in February, or ph was a problem. For the growing season I’ll use those containers to root cuttings. And I might try a hydroponic basil or lettuce while I’m at it!

Hey Mike sorry if this was asked already I couldn’t find it in the comments, after the micro greens get bigger do you remove that little foam plug or just leave it in ? I’m wondering if you have to adjust that to make room for the larger stalk. Thanks

For a pool noodle project I did I needed to punch small holes through the noodles. I used these big wooden skewers I got at Dollar Tree. They’re basically XL kabob skewers. Those or even the regular sized might be good to punch holes for your micro-greens.

Mike, amazing video to tell what to do in a very quick way. I also admired the bird that you created a feeder to attract it. Amazing. It makes you relaxed to see it.

Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you so much for your detailed info. I have learned so much from you and though I am a newbie, I think I can have success with some of your ideas. I hit the dollar store (gloves and mask on) and grabbed my storage containers, got my shammies and seeds, my larger storage containers and my nutrients. I am geared up and so exited, now I am watching my plants grow…..I am impatient lol!

I actually took advantage of the 2 month shelter in place and went nuts on amazon to begin this hydro journey. It kept me busy learning from all the expert you tubes like this one. I’m finding it’s still a learning process and you can make it as simple as you like or go whole hog. I’m in the middle somewhere lol…. thx for your videos!

  • Lira Ziyad says:

I love the content! I am starting my hydroponics garden now. After building myself a greenhouse and it ran for a year I wanted to add some hydroponics onto a wall that’s just empty. A combination of some of your ideas and some other things I’ve seen plus things I have around the house means I get to do it for relatively cheap which is great!

  • Gage Smith says:

Something to consider for safety. Only use plastic containers that are food safe. Look up the plastic code (the recycle number on the bottom). From my research, pp5 and pp2 are the safest plastics to use that won’t leech chemicals.

  • Jim Beerstecher says:

Be sure to let your neighbors know you need containers like apple, orange, and other juice containers, nut milk bottles, jars with lids, etc. Great resource to let your neighbors help you up-cycle them into food production.

Took 6 years for YouTube to recommend that, would have avoided a lot of almond breeze to end up on beaches around the world 😅. Gold content especially these days, thanks for sharing 👍
