I am not a green thumb by any stretch of the imagination, but am wanting to BEGIN the adventure (in my golden years) with ONE raised bed. Can you tell me if using felled box elder parts (trunk, branches, leaves) are acceptable for the composting part of a raised bed? Since the trees themselves had to be cut down and the stumps poisoned with herbicide (bc they’re “sucker” trees that invaded my septic system), my concern is whether or not these newly dead trunk parts will sprout new baby trees right in the middle of my veggie garden! Thanks so much!
I am no expert, but the downed box Elder Trees may continue to attract the boxelder bugs….if so, in mass. I myself would look for something else, but I am not an expert. Enjoy cozy evening fire pits with the box Elder wood.
@raydeenjaques2048 I appreciate your response! However, one thing I learned in this whole ugly nightmare is that there is actually a MALE box elder tree as well as a FEMALE box elder tree! THANK GOD mine were all male trees, bc only the female box elder has flowers, and it is the flowers that attract those horrible bug infestations! Sadly though, I lost several beautiful trees bc of their invasive and far-reaching roots. 😢
