what an honor for those to get a chance to visit. im slammed at the end of September, so im unable to apply.
infrastructure surrounding the water systems, energy, and how the buildings were constructed gets my vote. but im into construction and slightly biased.
Would be great to be thereto see all the work that you have accomplished.. Dan (PFT) would be a good man to do some filming.. Hope everything goes well -from the Kootenays
Interested in the things you did and would do again and the things you would have done differently if at all and how you’d course correct those steps. I really appreciate what you have been sharing, definitely have been a source of inspiration for me and my family. Definitely pondering in applying. Maybe I’ll see you in September.
Thanks as always for sharing your experience. I would like to hear what you implemented compares to your initial plans
Great to see you succeed in your mission Curtis You’re inspiring lots of folks to improve their lives. ✌ Any topic around terrian optimization is awesome.
🥰🤗😁 bless uuuuu
Have been watching you from the start of this journey
Wow 😊 awesome and so special that you can share your
Experience with others yo help them on their journey 👍💖
I would suggest with priorities of a homestead from the first month to 3rd month and where do I start. This is very broad but if I’m new, a guide book would be great.
LOT to show in one day. I think I’d make it two days (Friday and Saturday) with a third day the 20-person intensive. I know that would mean an overnight, but dang, you’ve got a ton of stuff to show and tell there. I’d make one whole day on the gardening and livestock aspects and one day on the infrastructure. You could start at 9 am on day one until 5 pm and 9 am until 4 pm on day two. It will be getting dark early by that time of year so that would give people time to drive back to wherever. Just my thoughts.
Wish I could attend this event. Unfortunately my money is all going towards setting up my own homestead. I would really like to see your wood stove setup and hope you put that on YouTube at some point in the future and how you solve your pond leaking problem.
I remember when you first showed us the lot… there was nothing!
Curtis, I know some don’t ever talk about waste. What to do with garbage, and human waste. Not making a lot of garbage is a good start, but what can be composted or used for heat. We also like our humidor bucket system for our human waste which gets composted and used for tree fertilizer. Closing the loop as much as possible. I appreciate all that you do. Brandon
That’s a good one. I ‘ll add that to the list. I have a dumpster that I take to the dump about 4 times a year.
Great to follow this journey over the years, and see you creating a great place to live almost from scratch. Congrats.
I like the first projects you mentioned!
Can you go over your sanitation system Curtis? Thanks from my homestead to yours on beautiful Vancouver island. I am semi remote, grid tied with no septic 🤙🏽
WOOOOOOO!
YOURE DOING GREAT!!!!
I can probably attend online – but I would think most average people making the jump need decent (100k plus) off-grid income (no salary, home production and recurring income) and a mindset shift around money. Also, from my perspective in Utah, I’m curious if you use swales for water retention (I can see terracing, but I’m not sure if they are true swales), and how they work in actual practice. I brought on a farm manager and he’s adamant about the importance of swales (there’s a slight slope to our property). We are at 6200 feet and have cold winters and hot/dry summers with about 12″ of water a year (we have a year round creek but no rights to the water yet). My simple approach is plant, water, and weed and that’s it – we have massive abundance with that- but he wants earthworks, which to me seem redunant to spray and drip irrigation which works perfectly all by itself. Interested in your thoughts and experience.
I envy those who can make it. I don’t have a setup that can ever become a proper homestead but I do have serious plans to build a greenhouse on our extra lot. Maybe you could consider packaging information from this tour into mini sessions in the future on specific topics such as greenhouse design and building, energy, etc.
