We love what Allyson and Alan at Hydroponic Hut are doing. And we want to emulate it here. We're going to get it started from scratch. That way, you can see how it's done, so you can do the same. Now, Hydroponic Hut's got it going on. It's a pretty decent size. In addition to this, they've got some land, where they're building an even bigger setup.

That's going to be an awesome journey to follow. So, first off we want to grow high quality produce for low prices. Our second thing is to educate the community because we can only grow so much food for the community. We need the community to start taking action and growing for themselves. And our third tier from this is to take hydroponics and turn it into a non profit that actually supports other local farmers in the community.

So we're taking everything down. The shade house is gonna stay. That's working good. Something here I'll tell you about later. We've got the Vivosun hydroponic system here. Took that down. That worked out great. We're gonna relocate it somewhere else.

So if you put up a couple of posts in your yard, you can do all kinds of stuff with it. Vertical gardening. Lots of plants in a tiny space. We've been busy too, we had to replace our fence. There's more of it out front, so we're about to get that done.
We're gonna put a downspout across the top. This will be for the plant starts. And she's got her urns set up down here. It's basically like the rain gutter grow system by Larry Hall. Just instead of buckets, she has these plastic urns. That kind of system works great. She's got mint, some sage left over here, parsley, oregano, thyme, dandelions, uh, broccoli, peas.

When the sun comes up in the morning, this area doesn't get any light. It's about 10 or 11 o'clock before any real sunlight comes poking through the trees here. So this is the only area of the yard that gets a little bit of full sun, and only for a few hours a day. You can see that area over there is totally shaded, nothing will grow, and this end's shaded too.

So that's where we throw our compost. You can see we don't have a very big yard, and this is what I want to show y'all. It's just a tiny space here. We're gonna set up a table. Maybe a hydroponic hut. So we've got the lumber. Just kind of working out the details and where to put everything once we move this ladder and take the shelves off the wall.

But we're about to get it all set up. We moved the gnome home over here. I had a tree cut down, but the neighbor's fence was nailed to it. I didn't want to knock the fence down. So we just left this part up and put the gnome home around it. It's gonna be a neat little area, stick a window up here.

Now the shade house is covered with plastic, stops rain from coming in there. And this is where we're going to set up one of our first tables, because I can actually attach some plastic here, pull it over the table, and it'll stop the rain from entering our hydroponics. We're going to show you how to do it cheap and easy.

These roof panels are actually for the hydroponic hut, and we've just got some scrap lumber from another project. We're going to set up a grow table here, and we're trying to use as much stuff as we have. So we already had this table. It's just the right size to fit a 4×4 grow table on the top. And then I've got some greenhouse plastic that's just going to come across the top.

I can’t afford to buy commercial nutrients, so how can an alternative be made

      We are working on it.

Comercial nutrients, especially mineral supplements, are extremely cheap in wholesale. But if you dont have access to that, you can try comfry liquid compost and also composting your urine. I wouldnt recommend using urine if youre on medication.

    Question…
If the shade house is in an area that we actually receives sun and needs a shade cloth, then why not move it to a shady area of the yard and plant sunnier things in that spot?
I’m not pretending to know anything… My major problem is super sun boiling away the plants on a rocky hill.

    • @KeepOnGrowin says:

Because I don’t leave the shade cloth on permanently. It is held on by about 8 zip ties and a few staples. I grow in there. It works where it is and would be a pain to move. Plus, I need the shade to film.

@ aahhh….makes sense. Thanks for the great ideas. 🙂
