Hey Folks. Started the week off on a downer with a leaking rainwater tank & finished it off with a very decent pumpkin harvest. I see many pumpkin & prawn red curry soups in our future. 🍲🦐
Hope you all had a great weekend & have a fantastic week folks.

I thought you would throw the seed from the best pumpkin?

    • @Berkeloid0 says:

All the fruit on a given plant come from the same genes, so it doesn’t matter the quality of the individual pieces of fruit (assuming decent pollination) as both the good and bad fruit share the same genes. The *next* generation that grows from the seeds will vary based on how the seeds were pollinated, but you don’t know if they are any good until you’ve grown the plant and seen what kind of fruit it produces. So it’s fine to plant seeds from fruit that isn’t great, as long as that same plant also produced a lot of good fruit too. But if the plant produced mostly undesirable fruit, it’s better to just get rid of the whole plant and forget any seeds it produced (from good or bad fruit) as you don’t want those detrimental genes passed along.

Bummer with the water. Got pumpkins for months. Dont knock wallaby poo till you tried it.

Why dont you run the pipe underground

    • @Berkeloid0 says:

He’s said in a few past videos they will eventually, but if they do it now it may get damaged with future planned work or possibly require digging up and relocating, so it’s easier to just keep it where it is until the future plans are finalised.

I hope the broken tank turns into a fish tank… πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ€”

    • @Berkeloid0 says:

Imagine the size of the grow bed you could make with one of those cut in half 🀣

    • @insAneTunA says:

@@Berkeloid0 It would be large enough and great for a bio filter for grey water though. I would cut it and partially dig it into the ground and line it with an EPDM pond liner, and in that case not even try to fix the leak. With a liner it could even still serve perfectly fine as a fish tank if it is partially buried in order to prevent the tank from splitting apart. All that matters is that it keeps the shape.

  • @Gayle.M says:

Now that those tanks are empty is there a better place to move them or new tanks to?

  • @coffeebuzzz says:

Rob, I just put in a new 110,000 L tank. Steel tank and liner was $12,800 with a gutter kit so it catches its own water as well as the house roof. Don’t waste too much money on old, dirty and unknown age water tanks and pipes , clean water is too important and you want peace of mind.

    • @rw-xf4cb says:

Matilda Tanks though think NSW/VIC have had some sales was thinking about one too but I also have 6 5000G tanks and they are always isolated and only opened up to distribute the load (just in case a tank or line leaks – had 2 go that way one from a horse and another just rusty old tank finally gave way).

  • @masondawson4061 says:

In the states we have what we call Squash Bugs. They look like Lady Bugs, but are generally larger, and orange instead of red. They eat leaves on squash plants leaving a sort of wispy lace behind from leaving some of the thicker parts I suppose. They lay eggs in bunches of about ten on the underside the leaves that are red. If you don’t catch them the grubs will go to town on the leaves. The colors I describe may be slightly different as I have trouble with red and green, not to mention regional variation.

  • @Jsak666 says:

When are we going to see actual work being done??? Bit tired of update videos and no progress. No aquaponics being setup, no mention of it starting, nothing about the dams? I thought this farm was going to be expanding your content. You should have kept your channels separate.

    • @Berkeloid0 says:

That’s the problem with buying a place like this. You have all these plans but you keep getting side tracked by fixing up all the problems left behind by the previous owners before you can even start your own stuff. The channel is nothing if not realistic for anyone else wanting to follow a similar path.

  • @insAneTunA says:

Sorry to hear about the leaking tank. Seems like a nasty crack at a nasty place. But not strange after 30 years of flexing and being exposed to the elements. Hopefully it can be fixed, and for a reasonable price. πŸ‘

  • @rw-xf4cb says:

Facebook has got/had a load of tank sellers (Bundy way etc) with 2x5000G tanks for just under $6K free delivery as its tax time – June EOF year sales.

  • @noahriding5780 says:

I also grow pumpkins. I’m curious if you had advice on the ideal watering interval for them? Thanks. PS; Pumpkin french fries are great. Also for spoiled pumpkins you can cut them open and cut off the bad parts and then feed the good parts to the chickens; its suppose to also help them get rid of parasites also.

Aluminium on stainless steel can corrode, for installing things with dissimilar metals a “duralac”(bcf job) coating is an industry standard for things expected to last 20years+

  • @Inventerius says:

Sorry to hear about the tank. That is not only colstly to replace but also to fill. But gives the need to redo some stuff. You have a fer ponds is there any way the water from that can be filtered and put jn the tank as a topup option in case of no rain ?

  • @matthewtomlinson2818 says:

Try to borrow a tank to pump remaining water into for the fix then pump it back? Empty tanks are better for working on.
