Extremely helpful video! One question, is there a particular reason why you use a Bush Reducer? Would it not be possible to use an elbow that fit the big big pvc pipes?
    Thank you!

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there !
I used the bush reducer , to increase the water level in the tubes.
When we use elbow , the water does not rise and does not touch the roots, especially when the seedlings roots are short .

  • CV Studios says:

Could you do more tuts for pH balancing or the materials /nutrients you use, tips etc?

    • SloDigital says:

Different vegetables, Fruits needs different ph level, also besides that they need certain temperature to grow.

  • Hriday G says:

    Nice video. Things well explained.
A query – You recommend everything to be make two, so the quantity you have stated is needs to be procured twice the amount you have stated or those you have stated is good for building two items.
A consolidated list of items and tools would be wounderful

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there !
the quantity I have stated is good enough the make the whole system .

Hello, this is a great guide to come up with a hydroponics system. I had a couple of questions that would clarify some doubts I have about the designing part of the system.
    1) What is the inlet of the pipe that flows the water from the tank (with the help of the pump) to the top grow tubes? Is it being inputted directly to the first hole for the plant, or is there another connection?
    2) Is the 50 mm PVC pipe the one you used for pumping the water from the tank to the first grow tube, if not what is the diameter for this one?
    3) When it comes to flow rates, do you need to calculate the desired one before you buy the pipes and the tubes, or do you worry about this once you have set up the system?
$) In terms of water level, should the ground tubes water levels be always above half the tube? How can you know this?
I hope you can answer this questions. I thank you in advance

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there ?
1- the inlet will be just before the first hole , you can drill a small hole depends on your water pump outlet size . My self I use 20 mm .
2- I used 20 mm pvc pipe to connect the pump to the first tube .
3-4: the water will flow equal from one tube to another , I used bush reducers (110 mmX50 mm ) so the water level will be about 60-70 mm max inside the tubes …no need to worry about this. The end of the netpot will be touching the water.
      I Hope I answered your questions .
      Thanks

This is one of the best tutorial so far! Planning to get started with hydroponics. I just have few questions
What motor should I use ?
How often should I change the water?
Can I use water tank which I can close when needed or is it mandatory to have it open?

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there !
      The water pump you can use 35 watt , H max 1.5 m .
      _ change the water every 2 – 3 weeks .
      – use water tank that you can close.

    • Teyob Tugbo says:

Good day sir. Just to add up some questions. Should i replace whole water on the reservoir or should i only add water with solution?

  • nay lin says:

Very precise and informative content, bro. I love to see more contents related to planting and gardening. Cheer!

  • Sparkle La Foucade says:

Wow!!!! I love this set up, thanks for sharing 👍

  • iylman says:

Hi Bibi, I’m in the middle of doing this, wanted to ask few questions. How big is the hole to saw and what is the size of net pot do u recommend? Another question is regarding the position of the bush reducer, would it be okay if I position the hole to be at the bottom rather than on top?

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there !
The hole I made is 55 mm .
The net cup size always follow the hole size , 55 mm is just nice for 4″ pvc pipe .
If you want to place the bush reducer (the hole on the bottom)…yes can but make sure your seedlings roots are long enough to reach the pipe bottom .

  • ADI Supply says:

Awesome video. What is the depth of the water inside the 4″ pipe and what flow rate do you use? Are you using a standard submersible fountain pump? Thank you for the great how to video.

  • Christeen RivaRigobert says:

I so very much appreciate your video. It’s the best by a long shot that I’ve seen thus far. I do have a couple of questions if I may. Due to my being brand new to this,….what is the white item you put the seedlings in? Where would I find this item? Amazon? Also, do you recommend fish emulsion int the water? I heard it’s very good for organic growing, but would it be right for this? And finally, could I grow things such as peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc using this? Or would the design need to change? If it would, do you have a video for that type of design? Again, thank you so very much for all your help.

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there! Thnx for watching
The white thing is sponge you can find them online search for Hydroponics sponge .
Adding fish emulsion will raise the ec level I don’t recommend to add fish emulsion with Hydroponic fertilizer instead you can make a organic fertilizer ( 1- gallon 1 ¹/² tps fish emulsion / 1 ½ tps seaweeds /1 tps blood meal ) great for leafy greens .
This 4″ pvc suitable for leafy greens herbs, strawberries .
If you want to grow big crops you can try top drip system ( Dutch bucket)
Here my video how to make top drip Hydroponic system.

@DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI, Woooow, thank you. You’re a vault of good information. I will do the organic fertilizer as you’ve suggested and make a duplicate system with 4” pvc for the greens and the strawberries. I very much appreciate you and will definitely look forward to more informative videos from you. As well, I’ll be passing the word about this amazing new vault I’ve found in you. God Bless and again, THANK YOU

Love the design. Two thoughts.. first, use the stand as a water reservoir. With closed ballvales or plugs to isolate the ‘reservoir’ from the tubes to prevent flooding the tubes by overall water level. Connect the tube drain into the front right leg. Some kind of double bell on the left rear leg to house a pump which pumps straight up via internal hose to the top grow tube. A wye ‘y’ tee could be placed on a rear leg just below the first grow tube to monitor water level, top off, add nutrients, etc. Second, all legs could be extended upward to provide a scaffold for lighting. This is in my future.

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

Great idea. All the best for your design .

    • ChatBot1337 says:

Just in case this comment gets any eyes. Further research makes me think oxygenation would be a problem with suchan enclosed reservoir.
Also, the water level would have to be kept below the level of the lowest grow tube, not the highest. Duh on my part. And the pump chamber could be accomplished by making a sealed 4″ section in one of the legs using the same bushings from the grow tubes and a bit of 4″ pipe. Add a ball valve at one of the feet for draining and maintenance. Voila. The main reason Im going ham on this comment is I live in a very snowy winter, hot dry summer climate. If you get some pipe clamps, mount up a timed power strip with the lights, this system becomes a one electrical plug, extremely portable system that can go inside with lights during the winter and out on the porch in summer.

    • BuD MaN says:

@ChatBot1337 dude stop rambling. Its a simple system to build anyone can do it.

  • dumpling7 says:

Thanks for the video. One common thing I see is UPVC tubing used as a food safe system, but then a probably non food grade water reservoir is used. Might be a good idea to find a food grade container as a water tank.

  • Purvi Desai says:

Hey it was a great tutorial for small hydroponics system and I’m making exactly same system as my college project. I had a question that after how much time do we need to change water ? And another, do we need to maintain different ph level for different crops ?

  • Adam Logan says:

    One little tip
It makes a huge difference if you run your hole saw backwards to cut pvc. Much easier.

  • Jaye says:

I’d love to see the final result after a few weeks. Maybe you should include that footage in your video next time? Are clay pebbles really nutritious for these plants or are they just used to secure the seedlings? Thanks.

  • Hardstyle Life says:

Very functional and simple; the idea of these little baskets filled with clay is quite bright. Definitely an accessible and easy way to have your first hydroponic system. Compliments!

  • David McLay says:

Great system, looks good too!! Just one question, for the 4″ pipe, did you create a fall from one end to the other, or are they roughly sitting level in the framing?

  • Jonathan Crosby says:

Love the design. 2 question what are the clay pebbles for and do you need a grow light for indoors?

  • Karl Jones says:

This is the best how-to on hydroponics I’ve watched. Thank you.

  • Jeff Haines says:

Great setup!! I built a tower hydroponic and now I’m thinking about going horizontal like yours. Couple questions:
    – do you have the pump on a timer. Say 5 min on 30 min off?
    – if so, when the pump is off does all the water drain into the sump or is there still water trapped in the tubes?
    – is root rot a concern? Did some of your other pants experience it?
    Thanks

    • DIY & GARDEN WITH BIBI says:

      Hi there!
if you raise your connectors when you turn off your pump the water will be in the tubes , when your system is oxygenated well you won’t face rot root .
