    another hoochoo video <3

  • @Braddy_Daddy says:

One of the best DIY-er/Inventors on the YouTube!!

  • @Draakdarkmaster6 says:

hey hoocho, been following your beekeeping saga for a bit now, wanted to turn your attention to another channel called bottle beekeeping where this guy does contactless beekeeping in plastic jugs. i wonder if, with some 3d print magic, if you could merge the contactless bottle beekeeping designs from that style of beekeeping with a flowhive-like mechanism for honey harvesting.

EDIT: the channel i saw it first it on was called advoko makes.

  • @ddrweb_ says:

This ‘DIY’ tutorial was very similar to an IKEA installation video … buy, assemble and make it work

  • @downunderfulla6001 says:

Bloody awesome mate. Nothing beats the personal satisfaction and pride from building something yourself and being able to see/use it every day. Thanks for sharing that mind of yours that doesn’t seem to stop ticking🍺🍺

  • @christopherd.winnan8701 says:

Starting out with solid cost info is something many other YouTubers could well learn from. Well done!

  • @christopherd.winnan8701 says:

Add the term ‘3D printing’ to your main title for much greater reach.

Can you talk more about the Chinese version? Is is printed or moulded? How does it compare to the box in weight?

  • @tvideo1189 says:

I wondered when you would show something I would certainly do at 5:21

    • @TotesCray says:

Came just to say that. As soon as the wire came off I was like “Oh I’d definitely knock it over now and screw everything up.” Then BOOM! and coffee came out my nose.

  • @exhile3747 says:

-Question from someone that want to start:
-This type of boxes also works for large scale production or then you have to use the “normal ones”?

  • @exhile3747 says:

    Question:
What about other products like pollen, Jelly Royal, wax?

    • @Hoocho says:

Everything that isn’t honey happens under the queen excluder (except wax, if you want wax flow supers aren’t for you or you can use them in conjunction with normal supers), the flow supers are above the queen excluder.

    • @exhile3747 says:

Thanks for your answer! Awesome video @Hoocho

  • @exhile3747 says:

    Thanks! Question:

Impact of plastic vs wood for the bees? Maybe less production? Cant be boiled during the harvest (is that important)?

-Internet: can impact bees, including weakening their immune system, altering their behavior, and potentially harming their digestive systems.

Did you really perceive this impacts?

  • @stationplaza4631 says:

One of the great blessings of the 21st century, is we have cool people like Hoocho, and others on YouTube that can make stuff like this.

  • @Serendipity_Strawberry_Farm says:

This is absolutely fabulous. I do not have a 3d printer but could adapt a box to suit which is probably cheaper than me purchasing an entirely new generic hive. I am excited for next season and the ability to create another colony if my grows too big and decides to swarm. I absolutely could not afford to do another flowhive as the cost just makes it too far out of reach for us. It’s great to have other options now. Im going to rewatch your video as Im a little confused as to whether I have to still take out panels to get the generic frames to fit the langstroff or whether you were advising to cut off those lugs which will allow them to fit without having to mess with the wires. Back to watch this possibly 3-4 more times. Thankyou.

  • @philaandrew100 says:

I have two Founding Member sets of Flow frames that a decade on are still going strong.
Would not surprise me if I get another ten years out of them.
A fellow Beek bought a set of the Chinese rip offs and they lasted 2 seasons and then fell apart when he cleaned them, (yes, you do need to maintain and clean the Flow frames)… So cost wise there is no real saving to be had there.
Buy once, cry once as the old saying goes.
With the Flow timber boxes, if people bothered to treat them before using them they would find that the boxes last just as long as any other commercially available boxes.

People moan about the initial cost of the Flow system.
If they did some number crunching they would realise the Flow system that comes with everything you need, costs pretty much the same as buying hives, frames, a half way decent extractor, Bee suit, smoker, hive tools etc.
Bee keeping is not a cheap hobby to start up, the rewards come over time and with patience.

  • @TotesCray says:

    Love that you give options!

You buy flow and just set it up, if you buy the clone, it’s a bunch of extra work.

People can choose based on their level of skill, willingness to diy, ability to pay for one or the other, etc.

Just pretending like the auto frame doesn’t exist would be disingenuous.

    Thanks for another awesome video!

  • @freeq1829 says:

awesome video and inspiring to say the least! I would love to see these when it comes time to harvest honey, please make another video! 🙂

  • @runningfromtheheat says:

So when are your split frames coming out you hinted of in the past?

  • @MichaelBransonCoach says:

I hope everyone understands that plastic cells introduce microplastics into the honey that you are consuming… That being said, I’m in love with the concept… it should be machined metal or 3d metal though.

  • @1turf32 says:

    Very cool
