Hours of Work vs Minutes With This Strawberry Tool
This Video is from the Youtube channel: “Homegrown Passion”.
Winterizing strawberries doesn’t have to steal your whole day. In this greenhouse video, I show how I prep hydroponic strawberries for winter using a pruning tool that turns an hours-long job into minutes — and honestly makes it way more fun.
I love strawberries… but trimming every plant by hand? Absolutely not. When you’re working inside a high tunnel with rows of hydroponic strawberries, efficiency matters. In this video, I take you inside our greenhouse to show our real winter prep process and the pruning tool that completely changed how fast (and how satisfying) this job is.
Winter prep is one of the most important — and most overlooked — steps in growing strong, productive strawberry plants. How you cut them back now decides how they wake up in spring. I’ll show you exactly how much foliage to remove, how to protect the crowns, and how to avoid the mistakes that leave growers wondering why their strawberries didn’t bounce back.
These strawberries are grown hydroponically in BATO buckets, and what used to take hours with hand snips now takes just minutes — clean cuts, healthy crowns, and no unnecessary suffering. Trust me… once you see this, you’re not going back.
If you grow strawberries in a greenhouse, high tunnel, or hydroponic system, this is one winter prep step you’ll actually enjoy doing.
👇 Quick question: do you cut your strawberries back for winter, or let them go wild?
Stick around — spring results are coming.
If you grow strawberries in:
• Greenhouses
• High tunnels
• Hydroponic BATO bucket systems
• Raised beds or garden rows
…this winter prep method matters.
You’ll see:
• How much foliage to remove before dormancy
• Why clean cuts now = healthier plants later
• How to avoid pest and disease issues over winter
• The difference between slow hand tools vs powered pruning
• What NOT to skip if you want strong spring regrowth
This tool was sent to us by SEESII, and it fits perfectly into real-world seasonal cleanup — especially when you’re working with a lot of plants and limited time.

Don’t you dare lose your mind! “Really dangerous, but in a good way” 😍🤗😈 Like the way you think! And those pruning shears are THE most dangerous of them all but they work great for pruning grape vines in the vineyard.
Haha, I’m glad you appreciate my way of thinking! Those shears are definitely powerful. 😂I will be careful!! ❤️
The shears are cool!!!
Absolutely! Those shears really make the job so much easier and efficient. ❤️
The size matches the job perfect. Maybe keep the free hand behind your back. Could you do everything on one charge? Thanks!
They worked great. One battery did the entire job and you are right… keeping your hand behind your back is a great tip. Thank you! ❤️
Told you that that’s the only way to go!
Love all the extra stuff that that trimmer has though!
Chuck
You were definitely right! It’s amazing how much time it saves. ❤️
Would it be easier to blow the leaves instead of rake them? Might save your arms or back a smidge if you have a gentle enough blower.
That’s a really good idea. We do have a leave blower maybe easier to blow into a pile then pick them up and put in the Kubota. Thank you. ❤
I just let my strawberries go wild this year, lost many. A few survived. It is now 100 F degrees outside.
Oh no, that’s tough to hear about your strawberries, especially with that heat! Hopefully, the surviving ones will bounce back stronger next year. Where are you located? ❤
Do you know anyone with chickens? I bet they would love to feed them your trimmings!
Yes me. I have chickens. Right now just some laying hens. I did give them a little as a treat but they were not really interested. I guess they like the greens I give them from the greenhouse more. 😊
