this is neat! I gotta remember to keep my containers 😁
Just got my new bag of leca Tuesday to try this too.
Interested to see if reusing this medium causes mold build up since it can’t be disinfected between uses. Following for updates. Thanks
Tikki O. on YouTube puts her leca balls into the oven. I personally just boil them. They definitely won’t explode using either of these methods.
You can definitely disinfect leca, typically you boil them for 20-30 minutes or use a peroxide treatment. I do both for my Microgreens setup
Awesome idea!!
Thank you👍
Using the clay pebbles for microgreens didn’t work optimally for me. Too many seeds fell into the holes. However, the leca balls are perfect to use in cups in the Kratky system, as pool noodles generally cost more than 4$ a piece here in Europe. So we all have to adjust to our personal conditions. I found I pinched the seedlings way too hard in the noodles anyway…
Leca balls are quite cheap here.
On the same note, square downspouts are not common here and definitely not affordable. I dislike the round rain pipes, so I adapted an Ikea Trofast box. Really easy to clean, the top rests perfectly on the bottom, doesn’t sag and does not split drilling the holes. Maybe a bit translucent, but I never minded a few algae…
With which I wanted to say: find out what works for YOU. Don’t break the bank trying to do EXACTLY what Mike does, but adjust and tweak a little. In the end, it’s all about doing this as effective, effortless AND cheap as possible!
