The danger of using human feces in the garden or farm can be mitigated. There’s a solid book on composting called Humanure. The trick is to get the compost pile hot enough, long enough, and that does require “brown compost” (leaves and plant material). In the book, the guy recommends using a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat, using wood shavings for your litter. This starts the initial breakdown of the feces into hot compost. There are some people still scared of its use, so they use this compost on their flowers, shrubs, and fruit trees.
We should be more concerned about growing food on the moon first. First it’s closer, easer and less expensive to get back and forth. We could use reusable vehicles. Though it would not be feasible to use it to feed the Earth but we could learn how to do it before we get to mars. In fact we need to settle the moon first to be ready for Mars. 2 planting plants and trees is something humans have been doing for a long time. As a tree and plant hobbyist most of my trees are grown in inorganic soil. Yes the plants need so many hours of sunlight we can easily control that. I do. Also the light on Mars is not intense enough to grow plants. And if we ever start to live on Mars we will be eventually doing all our farming underground. We should fix our planet first before we think about moving some where else.
