Winter farm survival during extreme cold isn’t easy. In this video, we show how we keep livestock watered, the greenhouse heated, and our farm systems running during sub-zero winter weather.

With major winter storms, deep snow, and extended cold across the country, we’re sharing exactly what our daily routine looks like when temperatures drop below freezing. From breaking ice in livestock water troughs, keeping chickens watered and collecting eggs before they freeze, to managing greenhouse heating systems and monitoring our oil well for natural gas production — this is real winter farm life.

We also explain how solar radiation, thermal mass from concrete and gravel, airflow management, and redundancy help protect our greenhouse crops during extreme cold snaps. Winter farming is all about consistency, routine, and catching problems early — and this video shows what that looks like behind the scenes.

If you’re dealing with winter farming, greenhouse growing, homesteading, or cold-weather livestock care, this video is for you.

Can’t hear your voice, only the music. Why not drop an aquarium heater into the water trough?

    • @HomegrownPassion says:

No electricity down there. I used to have an outlet but the line was damaged. Going to replace it in the spring so next year I can use my trough heaters.
