Hellinois sucks. I’ve lived here my whole life and have a 5 year plan to move far far away. 3 years down, 2 years to go… counting the days.

    Please do MN!! Thanks❤

  • @LGB-FJB says:

ILL in noise shouls be avoided.

  • @d.haskins3840 says:

Living in IL…they just passed a Right to Garden law and a Native plants landscape law to stop overstepping municipalities and HOAs. And there is The conservation Fund helping food growing farmers near Chicago. Will/KANKAKEE Counties are supposed to get a drone airport. Chaimpagn area is great! As is NW corner of state.

  • @barb8452 says:

If you don’t live there you have no idea what is happening..truely happening

  • @esumk says:

There’s many replications of Curtis and polyface models just north of Chicago. If you’re interested in being a part of our community and learning how we’re doing it, while on the front lines of every problem in our farm lives. come out to “common ground” meetup December 8th

    • @albowrx says:

Im homesteading in a tiny city plot in Shitcago. More info on where it’s happening and more details.

    • @esumk says:

@@albowrxTBA probably in Crystal Lake or Woodstock. Look them up it’s a farmer/landowner meetup. There’s lots of great incubator options to get you started, this is a great resource to start.

    • @GrumpierByTheDay says:

@@esumk I’m from the area, and it looks unfortunately like we’ll be back sometime next year. Are there regular meetups?

    • @esumk says:

@@GrumpierByTheDaythis has been an annual meetup usually early December. Check with MCCD or the extension office for other meetings like this, they have been very helpful.

    • @d.haskins3840 says:

@@esumk when where? Our family has a farm in woodstock

  • @Ghost2743 says:

Peoria is twice the size of Springfield btw.. But yea it’s all the Corn/Soy Wastes as I call it do suck, but the Shawnee area is amaaazziing, tons of ground/spring water, everyone has ponds that hold water no problem. Same ecosystem as the Ozark hills in Mo, VERY rich in plant and animal diversity and density. The ticks are bad but the mosquitoes are minimal (and native, not this vicious Vietnamese Tiger mozzies), the tick-born diseases however aren’t nearly as common as in the south or east of course.

The Mississippi starts in Minnesota bro

  • @codyjohnson9781 says:

I live in McLeansboro. My dad inherited around 18 acres of land about 10 miles out when my grandpa died. I figured he’d give it to me and my sisters, but he ended up selling it to spite the family.

  • @jenniferbaldassari says:

As soon as you begin traveling south from Decatur, there will be far less Karens. As you hit southern Illinois, it’s the homesteader watch out for eachother mindset.

  • @aleckhively9512 says:

Between the IL and MS river, particularly south of I72 is much better than NW IL as far as population and traffic goes, not to mention cheaper. Both NW and SE IL are the next best options for sure.

  • @BedtimeBen says:

I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about.

  • @dudeusmaximus6793 says:

I’d say homesteading is worth in in the southern 1/3 of the state, maybe some places along the Mississippi River in the NW part around Galena and such. The rest is too open, too flat, or too close to Chicago or STL.

  • @jackieow says:

7:53 John was King of England until 1216, which is why he didn’t have much to do with any part of North America. Ditto for John II of France who was bye-bye by 1364.

  • @amjuga1 says:

    Do Indiana!!

  • @mezenman says:

No s sound on the end of Illinois, it’s silent for some reason.

If you are going to homestead in Illinois you want to look at jodaviess county. The first place you looked at was in that county. It’s in the driftless zone. We have some of the best soil. We are the coolest county in Illinois. Our taxes are a fraction of other counties. Land prices are reasonable. Everyone has ponds. Plenty of mature trees. Good deer and turkey hunting. We also have galena. Which is nice for when people visit.

    • @mezenman says:

I should add a lot of the wooded areas you see are hunting grounds. People have large chunks of land they use just for hunting.
