Very cool experiment. The nutrient mix is super easy and not expensive. I guess the hardest part is keeping ph levels correct

  • @crowncreativemarketing525 says:

    Cool ideas!

  • @LisaLeonard-p9m says:

Great video. That was so interesting

  • @rayjack says:

it’s a good idea. some of us don’t have a garden shed to grow m/g and clean the sand. I would not recommend washing the sand at the kitchen sink. Like clay pebbles, u don’t want to clog your sewer pipes with sand and clay particles (even with minute clay pieces). Those plumbers charge a min of $100 just for travelling time.

    • @KeepOnGrowin says:

Yep, I do all my cleaning outdoors.

    • @rayjack says:

@@KeepOnGrowin I saw the video where u placed the USED leca pebbles in the sun to dry them out for the next grow. Wouldn’t it be more sanitary to boil them in hot water and then rinse in cold water. Other growers show the nasty remnants that come out from the used beads. The side of pot has reddish clay fragments. I know you have done it for a long time but that’s me , the germaphobic.

Been growing micros in coir for years. Changed to reusable silicone medium, and moved to sand 6 mos ago and leca right after. Personnaly I have never had a clog and I grow continuously on 2 five shelf units.

  • @ricosuaveon2 says:

The only downside I see to this is that you don’t regenerate seeds. Have you given any thought to that?

  • @dan8402 says:

This is a great experiment. Also sand could be used as a cheep alternative to clay pebbles or maybe even replace coco coir?
Would transplanting the micro greens in sand to a more permanent hydroponic system to get full vegetables be easier?
I wonder if putting say multiple layers of chees cloth in a 2 inch basket would hold the sand, and wick enough nutrients, yet let the roots come though for a krakey system?
Sand is super cheep. Potatoes in sand? Onions in sand?
Now this has me thinking…. Could is work in a gutter wicking system and grow bags?

Oh dear I must have had to much coffee this morning! lol

  • @TheWickerShireProject says:

I’m liking this this series Mike. Your onto something big!
We’re off grid and poor. I grow in clay soil. Our issue… is water. By 12 noon everything dries and begins to die.

  • @BeeHolistic says:

Great video, Mike! Can’t wait to learn so much more from and with you!

  • @bowtielife says:

That was an interesting experiment! I figured that capillary action would do really well for those seeds! I was a bit surprised by those dishes you had mounded up real high, though.

    97 in the shade… dude! Y’all crazy!! 😮

    • @KeepOnGrowin says:

Cooling off this week, might be 88. Ready to plant a lot more.

    • @bowtielife says:

@KeepOnGrowin  we topped off at 90 today but I still cut out on my fence building before noon. We had 74 as a low this morning, first time I’ve seen temps below 78 since April! Yay!!

  • @bradybunch84a says:

You amaze me with your original ideas. Just amazing! I think this is really a great idea and it also shows how important water is. Because if you don’t have water then it’s back to the drawing board.

  • @dnawormcastings says:

Great example how to grow in sand 🇳🇿❤️

  • @kkl8631 says:

Awesome Mike! Great video showing all the steps.

  • @disabilitytoabilitygardening says:

    wonderful as usual Mike
